In our Trend Micro review, we tested out the Maximum Security plan because it worked on five of our devices for a year for only $49.95, which was also pretty generous compared to competitors. But there are also options for one or 10 devices for one year or two years.

Are Trend Micro’s Add-On Services Worth the Price?
Since Trend Micro specializes in antivirus protection, you might wonder how their additional services compare to dedicated providers. Here’s our take on each add-on:
- ID Security: While not as comprehensive as dedicated identity theft protection services, ID Security offers valuable dark web monitoring for free. It notifies you if your credentials are a part of the 24 billion username and password combinations circulating on the dark web.2 There’s really no downside to using this tool.
- VPN: Like all VPNs, this tool encrypts your IP address and web activity. It’s particularly useful on public Wi-Fi networks to prevent hacking attempts. Compared to other cheap VPNs, Trend Micro’s offers competitive pricing. However, we wish there were monthly subscription options like most VPN providers offer.
- Password Manager: Since the average person manages over 100 passwords, the free five-password limit won’t suffice for most users.3 However, premium plans only cost $14.95 to $24.95 annually for unlimited passwords. That’s notably less than premium competitors. For instance, when we tested Dashlane, we paid $30 for one year of service.
FYI: If you don’t want to pay anything for your password manager, Trend Micro will let you save five passwords for free indefinitely. We recommend entering the ones you use the most often.
- Cleaner One Pro: This tool optimizes your Mac or Windows computer by freeing up storage and improving performance. While the $19.99 single-device price is reasonable, most users can achieve similar results through manual cleanup. However, if convenience matters more than cost, this tool can save you time.
